    Did You Know?

    Former UofL basketball player Angel McCoughtry finished with 8 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists during Saturday’s basketball game against Spain. Her efforts helped the United States win by a score of 101-72 and earned her a gold medal, UofL’s second from the Rio Olympics (swimmer Kelsi Worrell also earned gold). McCoughtry played for the Cardinals from 2005-2009 and currently plays for the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream.

    1.) New consumer LibGuide for LGBT Health Information Resources released

    Clinical Reference Librarian Jessica Petrey has created a LibGuide featuring LGBT Health Information Resources. The site promotes free resources and is geared toward community patrons. As more LBGT resources become available they will be added to the website. We hope to share a similar announcement soon on the accompanying LGBT Competent Care Guide for our students and healthcare providers.

    2.) New Air Force ROTC 2-year program underway

    Dougherty Hall, Rm 103

    Do you know a rising junior that has interest in the Air Force? The AF is offering a 2-year commissioning program to juniors this year. The ROTC program prepares cadets for leadership roles and upon completion, commissions them as 2nd Lieutenants. Career options vary from security forces to maintenance to space to aviation to medical and more. Interested students need to enroll in AIRS 311 Air Force Leadership Studies and AIRS 351 Air Force Leadership Lab this fall.

    3.) EndNote for Beginners available at Ekstrom Library

    Want to get started with EndNote, the citation management software program freely available to all UofL faculty, staff, and students? Come to the workshop where we will cover downloading the program, importing citations, working with MS Word, and synching with EndNoteWeb. The workshop is limited to 10 people.

    5.) Women’s Center celebrates Women’s Equality Day at RSO Fair

    August 23, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., SAC West Plaza, near the Red Barn; Free

    Join the Women’s Center and its student groups, W4W, AAUW of Louisville and the Student Parent Association at the RSO and Involvement Fair, and celebrate Women’s Equality Day. Pick up free ribbons, buttons and informational material on the right to vote and also learn about each group. On Aug. 25, visit the Women Center booth and get information from the Jefferson County Clerk’s Office about voting.

    6.) QEP faculty work group seeks participants

    The university is developing a new quality enhancement plan (QEP) as part of the 2017 reaffirmation process with SACS. The QEP Development Committee is proposing the creating of new, small seminars for second-year students. Faculty who are interested in helping devise the curriculum, or are interested in teaching the new seminar in 2018 or beyond, are invited to join the faculty work group. Deadline to join is Sept. 1.

    7.) Information Security Office – Risk Assessment Training offered

    Does your department accept credit card payments or is your department considered to be within the University’s HIPAA covered hybrid entity? Did you know that both PCI and HIPAA regulations require compliance monitoring and the completion of a periodic risk assessment? This training session will help you to understand the risk assessment requirement, your responsibility, and how the ISO can assist you in the risk assessment process. Read more.

    9.) Research subjects needed for NASA/Kentucky Space Grant Consortium project

    August 25, 6 a.m., Room 105L Student Activities Center

    Researchers with the UofL Exercise Physiology Program are seeking subjects for a project funded by NASA/Kentucky Space Grant Consortium. The project will assess muscle and bone changes resulting from a 10-week exercise program done on a novel prototype machine that provides resistance without the customary requirement of gravity to operate. As part of their project involvement, subjects who complete the 10-week program will receive two free total-body bone scans.

    The GHN Wellness Center will be closed Monday, September 5 in observance of Labor Day. Normal hours of operation will resume Tuesday, September 6.
