DID YOU KNOW UofL was a “question” on the game show “Jeopardy!” last week in a category about ACC schools. The clue/answer: “Some courses for the university of this city are taught at Fort Knox Army Base.” And the question, was, of course, “What is Louisville?” The College of Education and Human Development offers the Fort Knox classes for military personnel, who can obtain a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership and Learning and a Master of Science in Human Resources and Organizational Development. Classes are on-site and online, so students serving our country around the world can complete their degrees.
FACULTY AND STAFF NOTABLES Dr. Kevin Gue, professor of Industrial Engineering at the J.B. Speed School of Engineering, is the recipient of the Reed-Apple Award by The Material Handling Education Foundation Inc. The Reed-Apple Award is a lifetime achievement award established in 1981 for those who have made “an extraordinary, continuing contribution to material handling and material handling education.”

HR Benefits Open Enrollment begins Oct. 16The annual benefits Open Enrollment begins Monday, October 16 at 8 a.m. and closes Friday, October 27 at 5 p.m. Open Enrollment is your once-a-year opportunity to make changes to your benefit elections. Tuesday, Oct. 17: Could Louisville’s Level 1 Trauma Center, UofL Hospital, handle a mass shooting similar to what happened in Las Vegas? Dr. Glen Franklin discusses. Every state has citizen review panels to look at their handling of child abuse cases. Crystal Collins-Camargo from the Kent School of Social Work discusses their effectiveness.

LGBT Center Pride Week KeynoteOct. 31, noon-1 p.m., Kornhauser Library Auditorium, HSC, free The 2017 Pride Week HSC Campus Keynote address will feature Noell Rowan, PhD, addressing the clinical and social needs of aging LGBT patients and targeted strategies to improve the health of LGBT populations. Using earbuds, you are guided to slow down, relax and experience 15-minute explorations of mindful encounters with works of art. New guided narrations are posted each week that will bring you in contact with a variety of galleries and art expressions while developing your capacity for slow looking.
Faculty Research funding opportunityPilot project grants from The Center for Restorative Medicine are available for seeding of novel research to facilitate additional funding, foster new collaborative partnerships and/or support junior faculty. We anticipate funding three pilot projects of $50,000. Faculty leadership will review for consistency with the mission of the Center for Restorative Medicine and advisory board will review proposals for innovation and scientific merit.
