    1.) Art Library Research Award application open to any UofL student

    Have you seen an exemplary research project in the past year dealing with an aspect of art or design? The UofL’s Bridwell Art Library is offering a research award of $500 to any student who submits their project for consideration. The award also includes the opportunity to display the project and research materials in the Art Library’s display cases. Please encourage students to apply before the October 14 deadline.

    2.) Tachau gender equity award nominations sought

    Nominations are invited for the Tachau Gender Equity Award whose work addresses gender equity in education, research, advocacy, services and/or the arts. The financial award, sponsored by the Commission on the Status of Women, is presented at the Women Center’s Empowerment Luncheon November 16 at the University Club. Deadline for nominations is Oct. 7.

    3.) 2016 HERS Institutes sponsorship available

    The Commission on the Status of Women will sponsor an attendee to one of the 2017 Higher Education Resource Services (HERS) Institutes. Outstanding women faculty with a solid record of professional growth/responsibility, and a strong interest in campus administration are encouraged to review the institutes and apply for one that best fits individual circumstances. Application deadline is October 14.

    10.) McConnell Center lecture series kicks off today

    The McConnell Center’s Constitution Day celebrations include a public debate on “MVP of the American Founding: Alexander Hamilton vs. John Adams” and free cupcakes and pocket-size U.S. Constitutions. The talk features Mercyhurst University’s Michael Federici, PhD, and City College of New York’s Richard Bernstein, JD. Constitution Day events celebrate the 39 men who signed and ratified the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787.

    Hedy S. Wald, PhD, Clinical Associate Professor of Family Medicine, Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University will present, “Fostering Reflective Capacity with Interactive Reflective Writing.” The workshop will explore the concept of fostering reflection in health care professions education and practice and present frameworks for enhancing feedback to students’ reflective writing. Sponsored by the Undergraduate Medical Education Office.

    13.) Green Tip: Convene with interdisciplinary researchers at the Sustainability Roundtable

    UofL’s Sustainability Council is relaunching the Sustainability Roundtable to bring researchers from all disciplines together around potential interdisciplinary topics that we could collaborate on through joint grant proposals and investigations. The Roundtable convenes on alternate Fridays at 11 a.m. in LS133, highlighting a different topic/speaker, with ample time for discussion. Today’s speaker is Margaret Carreiro (Biology) on “Incorporating Native Species in Urban & Suburban Landscapes.”
