Programs in between will focus on immigrants’ stories and black life in Louisville.
The Yearlings Club, a partner of UofL’s College of Arts and Sciences, is devoted to civic responsibility, community service and leadership development. Each year, the club organizes public events to bring people in Louisville together with UofL faculty members to share expertise, forge common bonds and explore issues.
The spring series includes:
- Sunday, Jan. 8 – “Our Muhammad Ali: A Life, a Legend, a Birthday Celebration.” Classmates, neighbors and friends will share stories about “The Greatest” as the program celebrates this month’s 70th birthday of Louisville’s native son, former professional boxer, philanthropist and social activist. The public is invited also to share stories of Ali growing up in Louisville.
- Sunday, Feb. 12 – “Louisville: From the Black Side,” panel discussion about life in Louisville by community members representing such perspectives as elders, youths and young professionals.
- Sunday, March 11 – “Immigration: We’ve Come a Long Way,” panel discussion with Louisville immigrants about their experiences in coming to and contributing to the city.
- Tuesday, April 17 – Community picnic
The events run from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Yearlings Club, 4309 W. Broadway, and include refreshments and networking opportunities.
