The IHQ is a collaborative, feminist art project initiated by artist Judy Chicago and gifted to the Hite Art Institute at UofL from the Through The Flower foundation in 2014. With 540 individual panels that can be assembled into one monumental artwork, each quilt piece was crafted by a different maker to honor a specific woman, a women’s organization or a women’s issue. In addition to the individual panels, the IHQ collection contains documentation about the makers, honorees and techniques of each panel.
The full IHQ collection, with all 540 panels and stories, may be viewed in the online database at http://uofl.me/intl-honor-quilt. The Hite Art Institute welcomes research inquiries, requests for appointments to view quilt panels, or discussion of possibilities for exhibition loans. For more information, email ihqinfo@louisville.edu.
The IHQ is permanently available for a variety of educational purposes including research, exhibition and curriculum programming. The quilt will go on exhibit at UofL in August 2015.
