The event is open to faculty, staff, students and the public.
Ramsey, Jurich and others will cut a ribbon and lead a ceremonial first lap around the indoor walking track at 8:30 a.m. The event also will include tours of the facility, equipment demonstrations and healthy snacks. The tours and demonstrations will continue throughout the day. A shuttle will run from two locations on Belknap Campus and from the Health Sciences Center.
“We look forward to showing our faculty and staff all that this facility has to offer,” said Patricia Benson, director of UofL’s Get Healthy Now program, which manages the gym.
Humana Gym replaces the Crawford Gym faculty/staff fitness facility, which closed in March. Humana has received a $1.3 million facelift, including renovated men’s and women’s locker rooms, the indoor walking track, a conference facility and other amenities. It also features dozens of new pieces of equipment, including free weights, treadmills, elliptical machines, exercise bikes and others.
The facility will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
Humana Gym is at Bradley Avenue and President’s Boulevard.
In conjunction with the gym’s grand opening, UofL is hosting the first American Heart Association Wellness Symposium. More than 50 local companies have registered to attend this event, which has a primary focus of disseminating industry best practices on employee health management.
The AHA also will recognize the first five companies to be named AHA Platinum level Fit-Friendly work sites.
