The event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the university’s J.B. Speed School of Engineering, is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Speed School Student Council and its theme is “Speeding to the Next Frontier.”
A goal of the expo is to introduce students to opportunities available in the engineering field. Jennifer Layton, logistics management specialist at NASA, will deliver the keynote at 1 p.m. in Room 103, Ernst Hall.
Other highlights of the event include:
- Watching elementary, middle and high school students in a competition to test pre-built balsa-wood bridges. There also will be a water bottle rocket launch contest.
- Participating in hands-on activities that demonstrate engineering, science and math concepts.
- Touring research and teaching labs in Speed School buildings along Eastern Parkway near Third Street, as well as the Shumaker Research Building and Lutz Hall.
- Discussing and examining UofL student research projects.
- Watching demonstrations, which include Speed students showing off racing vehicles that they built.
Parking will be available behind the J.B. Speed Building on Eastern Parkway.
