The event will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. behind the Founders Union Building and will include free food, inflatable rides, activities and musical entertainment for all ages. The menu will include hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, fruit, hummus, fresh vegetables and soft drinks. Much of the food is locally grown or produced by local vendors.
“The picnic is a way for us to thank our faculty and staff for the commitment they’ve made to make UofL a premier metropolitan research university,” Ramsey said. “Everyone is important in helping us reach our goals, and we wanted to take time to acknowledge their efforts.”
The day’s activities will begin with a brief ceremony at 3 p.m. to recognize the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
“It’s important for us to reflect on those events and to think about the many families who lost loved ones during that tragic day,” Ramsey said. “It’s also a time to think about and treasure our own families, including our university family. And we do value each and every member of our university community.”
To help with planning, event organizers are asking employees to register for the picnic by Tuesday, Sept. 6. Several door prizes, including tickets to a UofL football game and men’s and women’s basketball games, will be given away. Everyone who registers for the event by Sept. 6 will be entered into the drawing.
