The group will stage, “Whose Habitat Is It Anyway,” by Nefertiti Burton, and “Seven Labors of Arlecchino,” by James Tompkins, at 7 p.m. at the Thrust Theatre, 2314 S. Floyd St.

The habitat play teaches respect for the environment and how all living things are connected. “Arlecchino,” based on an Italian folk tale, is a comedy reminiscent of the styles of Charlie Chaplin, The Marx Brothers, The Three Stooges and Eddie Murphy.

Both are suitable for young children and serve as teaching tools. That is because, since 1975, theater students in the Repertory Company have performed largely in classrooms, and have introduced many students of all ages to theater.

“Teachers use the plays to complement classroom discussions on issues and values,” Frye said.

The Repertory Company also performs at nursing homes, prisons, chapels and has even performed at the Kentucky Governor’s Mansion.

The event is a fund raiser through the university’s Charting Our Course campaign to benefit theater arts. The performances are free but $15 is a suggested donation.
