Most activities will take place at its booth in the Health Horizons section of the South Wing of the Kentucky State Fair and Exposition Center. Some of the screenings require payment. Others are free.
Here’s a daily schedule. Descriptions are provided only on the first occurance.
Thursday, Aug. 18
Breast Cancer Screenings, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Technicians from the Brown Cancer Center’s Breast Care Center will provide mammograms on a first-come, first-served basis. The screening includes a radiologist’s reading. Eligible women must: be 40 years of age or older, not be pregnant or breastfeeding, not have breast implants, never had breast cancer, not have had a mammogram in the past 12 months, not currently have any breast problems, have a current primary care physician to receive the medical report. To be screened, women should bring a Medicare or commercial insurance card. Grant funding is available to those without insurance who qualify. A discounted rate is offered to women who do not qualify for the grant funding. Cash, check, or credit card will be accepted.
Skin Cancer Screenings, 9:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m.
Free. The Kentucky Cancer Program will provide screenings and education on how to Play it Safe in the Sun in partnership with Anthem, Kentucky Dermatologic Association, the Stan W. Browning Melanoma Foundation and the James Graham Brown Cancer Center.
Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Free. Specially trained epilepsy nurses will educate visitors about epilepsy, its warning signs and available treatments.
University Sleep Center, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Free. Experts will offer advice on getting better sleep and educate visitors about sleep disorders.
Prostate Screenings, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Free. The Kentucky Cancer Program and the Kentucky Prostate Cancer Coalition will offer screenings to men over age 45. No appointment is needed; exams will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.
Horses and Hope Exhibit, 11 a.m.-6:30 p.m., North Equine Exhibit Hall
The James Graham Brown Cancer Center and Kentucky Cancer Program work with Kentucky First Lady Jane Beshear to increase breast cancer awareness, education, screening and treatment referral among Kentucky’s horse industry workers and their families.
Friday, Aug. 19
Hands-on Robotic Surgery Experience, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Visitors will take the controls of the multi-million dollar daVinci Si surgical robot with assistance of daVinci surgeons. The daVinci Si system shortens hospital stays, leave less scarring and quickens patient recovery.

Oral, Head & Neck Cancer Screenings, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 20

Burn Awareness, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Free. Specially trained nurses will provide information about burn prevention, immediate steps to take after a burn and when to seek medical help.
Stroke Screenings, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Free. The Stroke Center at University of Louisville Hospital, the first certified stroke center in Kentucky, will provide information on how to detect and prevent strokes, including risk factors, such as diabetes and smoking. Stroke screenings will include blood pressure checks.
Prostate Screenings, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Horses and Hope Exhibit, 11 a.m.-6:30 p.m.
Oral Cancer Screenings, 4:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.
Free. The Kentucky Cancer Program and the University of Louisville School of Dentistry will perform the screenings.
