Nearly 100 people who tend to relatives and others attended the free Nov. 7 event during National Family Caregivers Month. The Office of Community Engagement and the Kent School of Social Work sponsored the free celebration at the Muhammad Ali Center.

“This event was done for no other reason than to say thank you to caregivers…to honor and celebrate people who unselfishly give of themselves to people who cannot do for themselves what they would normally,” said Sharon Moore, a social work professor who served on the organizing committee.
Other committee members were Faye Jones, Karen Kayser, Kenyatta Martin and Katie Leslie, all of UofL, and Sandra Malone of Canaan Christian Church.
Civic leader Alice Houston, co-founder and president of Louisville-based logistics services provider Houston-Johnson Inc., spoke at the luncheon about her personal experiences in caring for parents. Health care agency vendors provided information about their services and products.
