The Naked Truth: What Are Advertisers Really Selling Us

Media literacy expert Jean Kilbourne will present The Naked Truth: What are advertisers really selling us. She will examine the influence of the media and advertising on body dissatisfaction, disordered eating, substance abuse, violence and compulsive buying, and discuss how media and advertising affect how we think, feel and act. This is part of Body Awareness Body Appreciation Week.

Louisville Conference on Literature & Culture
Feb. 24-26. Belknap Campus and Muhammad Ali Center
Poetry, film, prose, race, music and culture will be among the topics at this year’s Louisville Conference on Literature and Culture Since 1900. Keynote addresses are free to attend and include Michael Heller, Grant Farred, Rae Armantrout and Jose David Saldivar. Registration is closed, but UofL faculty, students and staff can attend any session for free by picking up a badge in Room 300, Bingham Humanities Building. More information.
Conversation on Community Engagement
2 p.m.-3:30 p.m., Feb. 22, Room W104, Ekstrom Library. Free.
Marianne Hutti, School of Nursing, will talk about the role of nursing students in community education, especially as they work with the immigrant population and the west Louisville community on health issues. Conversation on Community Engagement is designed to create a community of learners where faculty, staff and students can share information about their community engagement activities and learn from the work of others.
