The English department’s creative writing program brings in distinguished writers through the Anne and William Axton Reading Series of free literary events. The readings and master classes are open to the public. Here’s the spring reading series schedule of events on Belknap Campus:

Feb. 7–8 — Hannah Tinti, New York City-based writing teacher and One Story magazine co-founder and editor-in-chief. Her first novel, “The Good Thief,” won a New York Times Notable Book of the Year and several other awards, and her work has appeared in numerous magazines and anthologies including “The Best American Mystery Stories 2003.” Tinti will read from her work at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 7 in Bingham Poetry Room, Ekstrom Library, and will lead a two-hour master class at 10 a.m. Feb. 8 in Library Room 206A, School of Music.

March 28–29 — Claire Vaye Watkins, Bucknell University assistant professor of English and co-director of The Mojave School, a nonprofit creative writing workshop for rural Nevada teenagers. Watkins’ short-story collection “Battleborn” was released last year, and her stories and essays have appeared in magazines and anthologies including “Best of the West 2011” and “Best of the Southwest 2013.” She will read from her work at 7:30 p.m. March 28 in Bingham Poetry Room, Ekstrom Library, and lead a two-hour master class at 10 a.m. in Room 300, Bingham Humanities Building.

April 11–12 — Lynnell Edwards, Spalding University associate professor of English and author of the poetry collections “The Highwayman’s Wife” and “The Farmer’s Daughter.” Her work has appeared in anthologies such as “Poets against the War” and literary journals including Southern Poetry Review and Poems & Plays; she also is a regular reviewer for several publications. Edwards will read from her works at 7:30 p.m. April 11 in Bingham Poetry Room, Ekstrom Library, and lead a two-hour master class at 10 a.m. April 12 in Room 300, Bingham Humanities Building.
