“Unheard Tales of the Vietnam War: A South Vietnamese Perspective from Kentucky” will begin at 6 p.m. in Chao Auditorium, Ekstrom Library, with a reception afterward. The Vietnam War Commemoration Committee at UofL organized the event with the McConnell Center, president’s office, history department and enrollment management office.
Panelists will include veterans Hung Le, Khue Tran and Tung Nguyen; the latter two were captured and imprisoned by the North Vietnamese Army in 1975. Other panelists will be Gary Minh Tran, former cabinet member of the South Vietnamese government, and Hao Tran, wife of imprisoned South Vietnamese soldier Khue Tran.
The five will reflect on the Vietnam War and its outcome, discuss changes in their lives under communist rule and recount how they escaped from Vietnam and settled in Kentucky. Moderators will ask questions and show clips from the Moving Voices oral history project, which collects stories from South Vietnamese veterans and refugees in Louisville.
