LOUISVILLE, Ky. – English professor Dale B. Billingsley has been named acting associate provost at the University of Louisville.

He will fill the associate provost position vacated by John Welsh, who earlier this month was named acting dean of the College of Education and Human Development. Both appointments are effective July 1.

Billingsley is the provost’s liaison to the Faculty Senate and to information technology. As acting associate provost, he will be responsible for accreditation and assessment issues in addition to his liaison responsibilities.

A U of L faculty member since 1978, Billingsley has served in many capacities at U of L. He has been director of freshman interdisciplinary studies, director of undergraduate studies in English, director of the university honors program and acting assistant university provost. He also has served as chair of the university’s Faculty Senate and as a member of the university’s Board of Trustees.

Billingsley received the Trustees Award for outstanding contributions to student life in 1998.

He received his bachelor’s degree from Texas Christian University and his master’s and doctorate from Yale University. He also was a Rotary International Fellow at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland.

“Dr. Billingsley is a highly respected faculty member with a long history of service to the university,” said Provost Carol Garrison. “I’m confident he will do an outstanding job as acting associate provost.”
