ELIZABETH DOLE TO JOIN SPEAKERSIN MCCONNELL CENTER FALL SERIES

    LOUISVILLE, Ky. – U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole will be among those speaking at the University of Louisville this fall through the McConnell Center for Political Leadership.

    Dole will speak Sept. 22 at 10 a.m. in Bigelow Hall, Miller Information Technology Center, Belknap Campus.

    A North Carolina Republican, Dole has been named by the Gallup Poll as one of the world’s ten most admired women every year since 1996. After a six-year stint on the Federal Trade Commission in the 1970s, she served as transportation secretary for President Reagan and labor secretary for President George H.W. Bush. She now belongs to the Senate’s Armed Services, Agriculture, Banking and Aging committees.

    • “The Lord of the Rings,” Nov. 7, 4:30 p.m., 407 Ford Hall. Leadership and literature conference with Brad Birzer, the author of “J.R.R. Tolkein’s Sanctifying Myth.”

    The McConnell Center also is linking up with the Hauenstein Center for Presidency Studies and the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library to cosponsor a Sept. 12 conference, “Considering the Bush Presidency,” at the Ford Library in Grand Rapids, Mich.

    All McConnell Center events are free and open to the public. Reservations are required only for the two leadership and literature colloquia.

    The non-partisan McConnell Center, founded in 1991, attracts students from around the state and grooms them for effective leadership. Its lecture series is designed to introduce students to top political and government leaders from a wide variety of backgrounds.
