LOUISVILLE, Ky. — University of Louisville creative writing professor Brian Leung will read from his recently published novel “Take Me Home” in a free, public event Nov. 18.
UofL’s English department sponsors the reading, which will begin at 4 p.m. in Chao Auditorium, Ekstrom Library.
Leung, an associate professor of English, will discuss his newest work that explores themes of justice, friendship and love set in 1885 Wyoming. In it a young woman, Addie Maine, leaves Kentucky to join her brother in homesteading in the West. The plot includes the historical event of deadly riots against Chinese coal miners during that period.
Leung also wrote the 2007 novel “Lost Men” and the 2004 story collection “World Famous Love Acts,” which won the Mary McCarthy Prize in Short Fiction and the Asian American Literary Award for Fiction. He co-authored the nonfiction humor book “Not Another Feel-Good Singles Book.” and his work is included in the short-story anthology “The Habit of Art” as well as numerous literary journals.
The Courier-Journal arts section ran his short story “Fat Girl With a Backpack” in its Sunday Serials during October.
