LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Anglers have until March 1 to sign up for a Florida Key fishing tournament that benefits the work of a heart research institute at the University of Louisville.
The Bucket List Fishing Tournament will bring together novice and expert fishermen in a four-day team format at the Hawks Cay Resort and Calm Waters Spa in Duck Key, Fla., on Sept. 26-29.
Open to men and women of any skill level, participants will be put into teams of three for four half-days of fishing competition with points awarded based on type of fish caught — bonefish, permit, barracuda, shark or snook. Prizes will be awarded at the end of the four days based on total accumulated points.
The tournament supports the Cardiovascular Innovation Institute, a research center that focuses on the discovery, development and implementation of innovative treatments for cardiovascular disease. Now in its fifth year, the CII has evolved into a world-class collaborative, integrated, multi-disciplinary enterprise encompassing basic, translational, clinical and population research in cardiovascular disease, affecting individuals throughout their entire lifespan. More than 20 research scientists carry out this important work in the CII’s facilities equipped with the latest technology available anywhere in the world including innovative research labs, operating rooms, medical imaging facilities, intensive care, monitoring facilities and the latest diagnostic equipment.
Cost to enter the tournament is $1,417 per person and includes all competition events, lodging, daily continental breakfast, prize money, fishing boat access and guidance from boat captains, along with a $500 tax-deductible donation to the CII.
