LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Listeners are invited to experience classical music with the 2014-15 Music eX Series presented by the University of Louisville School of Music.
Designed to explore classical composers, express musical intentions and exemplify the faculty at the School of Music, the Music eX Series features four classical concerts. Organizers are adding a brunch to the opening and closing shows to give guests an expanded experience.
All shows begin at 3 p.m. and are held at Comstock Concert Hall, 2301 S. Third St.
The season begins Sept. 21 with a piano concert by assistant professor Dror Biran who will perform pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Claude Debussy and Frederic Chopin. A pre-concert brunch at the University Club will be held at 12:30 p.m.
The Oct. 26 show will include works from Ludwig van Beethoven, Sergei Prokofiev and Gabriel Faure and feature Biran and guest violinist Sergey Ostrovsky, a founder of the Aviv String Quartet and described by Isaac Stern as one of the most outstanding Israeli violinists.
Cello professor Paul York will join Biran for a performance Feb. 22, where the pair will showcase works by Bach, Beethoven and Felix Mendelssohn.
The final show of the season will be March 29 and includes a salute to the Bach family with Biran, York, violin professors J. Patrick Rafferty and Brittany MacWilliams and the UofL eX String Orchestra. A pre-concert brunch at the University Club will be held at 12:30 p.m

A season subscription to all four shows is $50. Individual concerts are $15, with a student ticket rate of $5. Brunch reservations are an additional $20 and include tax, service and beverage. Proceeds from the series go to scholarships for piano and string students at the School of Music.
