4.) Surplus warehouse to reopen Wednesday
The Surplus Warehouse located at 1901 S. Floyd St. will reopen August 27. Warehouse hours are 8:00 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Department representatives may select items for department use only. There is no charge if the department representatives remove the item(s) from Surplus. Departments may request for a fee that Physical Plant deliver the reserved items by completing this request form.

5.) How to leverage the flipped classroom as a pedagogical tool in health science education
Aug. 29, noon to 1 p.m., School of Nursing Auditorium, Room 4003, K-Wing
Investigate alternative strategies for delivering electronic content and in-class activities in a flipped classroom setting in this one-hour lunch presentation. Steven Ellis, PhD, and Kara Goodin, MD, will share their experiences with “flipped teaching,” as well as sample student feedback gathered during the past two years.

7.) PLAN to offer workshop on essential Blackboard basics for GTAs
Aug. 27, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 to 5 p.m., Ekstrom Library, Room 117A
In “What GTAs Need to Know About Blackboard,” students will learn the essential functions of Blackboard. The 75-minute course will cover basic functionality such as login, navigation and document uploads and will also cover the Control Panel, in particular the basics of Blackboard’s Grade Center. This is a must for any GTA who will be grading and/or teaching using Blackboard. Graduate students interested in attending can register and find more information on the PLAN website.

10.) Save the date for Take Back the Night 2014 march and rally

UofL and the city of Louisville will once again join this national movement with a march and rally in front of The Red Barn (rain location is inside The Red Barn). Our theme this year is Unbreakable Spirit, featuring founders Grace Brown and Kaelyn Siversky from Project Unbreakable, a powerful visual campaign illuminating issues surrounding sexual assault. TBTN ’14 will also include drumming, spoken word, a candlelight vigil, community resource tables, free food and more!

The Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit and the Wendy L. Novak Diabetes Care Center are conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the metabolism, as well as safety, of a medication in children and adolescents aged 10 to 17 years old who have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. If the child qualifies to take part in this research study, he/she will attend three clinic visits; receive the study medication and study-related care at no cost. Novak Diabetes Care Center are conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of a medication in adolescents aged 10 to 17 years old who have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. If the child qualifies to take part in this research study, he/she will attend 11 visits over 56 weeks; receive the study medication or placebo and study-related care at no cost. Novak Diabetes Care Center are conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of a medication in adolescents aged 10 to 17 years old who have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate how a medication treats abnormal EEGs without seizures, as well as behavioral and neurological symptoms, in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). 15.) Research study for nausea and vomiting after a scheduled surgery, birth through 17 years
The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the safety and dose response of a drug given orally prior to a scheduled surgery that is used to prevent post-operative nausea and vomiting. 17.) Pediatric pain study, 7 through 16 years
The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate the safety, pharmacokinetics and efficacy of an investigational drug used to treat moderate to severe prolonged or persistent pain. Children 7 to less than 17 years of age who require continuous analgesia for moderate to severe pain for an extended period of time may be eligible for participation.
