    1.) Christian McBride Trio to perform tonight

    Bassist Christian McBride will headline the 2014 University of Louisville Jazz Fest. The Christian McBride Trio will perform at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at Margaret Comstock Concert Hall. Tickets are $15 for the general public, $5 for UofL students with a student ID. For more information contact Mike Tracy, 502-852-6032.

    2.) Tornado drill set for Tuesday, March 4

    The Statewide Tornado Drill will be Tuesday March 4, at 10:07 a.m. The UofL Alert system will be activated to test the notification system, but buildings will not be conducting actual drills.   To ensure that faculty and staff know what to do during tornado warnings, UofL has developed a training presentation that can be downloaded here (opens as PDF). Please review this presentation to be prepared for tornados whether on campus or at home. For more information, call Dennis Sullivan at 852-6670.

    3.) Jeff Walz Presents 2014 Lady Cards camps and clinics

    9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 16 – 19, Cardinal Arena

    $225, UofL employees

    Come join the Lady Cards as they help you improve your basketball skills and fundamentals. Day camp is for third to eighth graders. Players of all skill level are welcome; camp is open to all and any entrants. T-shirt and daily lunch are provided.

    4.) The Dos and Don’ts of Corrective Action

    Discussing disciplinary action in the workplace can be a difficult conversation to have with employees. Please attend our workshop and engage in a “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire”-style game show while learning about UofL’s corrective action policy. We will discuss job performance and work-related conduct with a shared objective of improving unsatisfactory job performance or correcting unacceptable work-related behaviors.

    Users may experience intermittent wireless outages during IT’s regular preventive maintenance period. Please note that other systems (e.g. Blackboard, email, instant messaging, PeopleSoft, ULink, data services, etc.) may be taken offline without notice.     6.) Green Tip: We save with your help

    In solidarity with UofL residents taking steps to save electricity during the Campus Conservation Nationals, the Sustainability Council urges you to help reduce UofL’s $1million per month utility bill. Turn off lights, computers and electronics when done; set computers to sleep when idle; unplug anything not actively in use; skip the elevator for the stairs; dress for the weather, turn down thermostats and close windows tightly; wash in cold water and air-dry laundry; shower with solar power at the Student Recreation Center.

    7.) Application deadline extended for 12th Annual Study Abroad Program in Panama

    We will continue to take applications until we have accepted 25 students for the 12th Annual Study Abroad Program in Panama, which will take place May 5-29. If you are interested in the program, be sure to visit the Latin American and Latino Studies website. You may also contact Rhonda Buchanan, PhD, director of Latin American and Latino Studies Program, at 852-2034, or Al Futrell, PhD, chair of the Department of Communication, at 852-6976.

    8.) Study abroad collecting for book drive, gift card raffle

    The Office of Study Abroad and International Travel is collecting gently used textbooks and children’s books until March 20. For every book donated, you will be entered to win a $50 gift card to the university bookstore along with a t-shirt and mug from the International Book Project. This is open to all UofL students, staff and faculty, and books will be collected on the first floor of Brodschi Hall.

    SIGS will host a panel discussion among women leaders at UofL, including deans, vice presidents and more. They will discuss the unique challenges and opportunities for female leaders in the academy and share their own experiences navigating the upper reaches of administration. The event also will offer attendees a forum to discuss their own questions about being a woman academic and leader. Students, faculty and staff can find more info and register on the PLAN site.
