2.) Free iClicker instructor kits available

iClicker instructor kits are available free by request to UofL faculty when you attend an iClicker training on 1/21/2016 (Belknap) or 1/22/2016 (HSC). You will discover the benefits of incorporating a classroom response system in your course, see an iClicker demo and learn how you can access iClicker for free. Lunch will be provided and instructor kits will be distributed upon request.

3.) Self-defense for Women class to be held
Beginning Feb. 13, 9 a.m. to noon, Wellness Center at Humana Gym, Studio B
Free
ULPD will be conducting a self-defense program designed specifically for women. The curriculum is based on the Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) Systems instruction. It consists of easy to learn, effectively proven physical defense techniques taught by certified instructors during the hands-on nine (9) hour program. Classes are open to faculty, staff and students. The class will meet on three consecutive Saturdays with each session lasting 3 hours. Class space is limited to participants.

8.) School of Medicine Research Committee announces new internal funding opportunity
The JHFE Research Enhancement Grant program offers funding to School of Medicine faculty principal investigators to gather new data to improve a previously submitted a multi-year, nationally peer reviewed grant application that scored well but was not funded. Applications are accepted quarterly, January 15, April 15, July 15 and October 15.

Recently hired lab employees who work with chemicals should attend this training. Recurrent training for lab employees is required every three years and may be completed in Bioraft (online refresher training). Bring employee/student ID number to sign in. 11.) Fleeing Conflict: Refugees and Migrants of Syria and Central America
Jan. 26, noon to 2 p.m., Brandeis School of Law, Room 275
The Brandeis Human Rights Advocacy Project and The American Constitution Society will present Fleeing Conflict: Refugees & Migrants of Syria and Central America, on January 26 from 12-2 p.m. in Room 275 at Brandeis School of Law. The event will include a panel presentation about refugees and migrants fleeing conflict. Student fellows will present a critical examination of the news coverage, terminology and rhetoric about who is a deserving refugee or migrant.

Benjamin Wright will speak as part of the Sutherland Endowed Chair in Glass Lecture Series. Wright will speak about his work and life as an artist, educator, administrator and researcher who uses glass. His work often bridges the gap between art and science. He is the director of education at UrbanGlass in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Medicine Grand Rounds features Thomas L. Abell, MD, Professor of Medicine and the Arthur M. Schoen, MD, Chair in Gastroenterology at UofL. Dr. Abell will present New Insights on Nausea and Vomiting: Gastroparesis and Gastroparesis-Like Syndrome focusing on reviewing the issues with chronic nausea and vomiting, discussing current understanding of gastroparesis, and describing the concept of gastroparesis-like syndrome.

18.) Participants needed for tobacco study- IRB # 13.0590
HCOC @ Clinical Trials Unit, Suite 460
UL’s School of Medicine is conducting a study on the effects of tobacco exposure in healthy young adults (21-45 years of age). The study is recruiting healthy unmedicated tobacco and e-cigarette user participants. The study will be one visit that will last approximately two hours and include questionnaires on your social history, health, tobacco use patterns, blood and urine collection, and other measures to give us an idea of your heart health. Participant compensation will be as a gift card.
