1.) Psi Chi to sponsor GRE workshop and practice exam
9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Feb. 8, Room 205, Bingham Humanities Building

Psi Chi will sponsor a GRE workshop (Kaplan conducted), lunch and practice exam. Registration is open to anyone interested in attending graduate school. Pre-registration and payment are due no later than Jan. 30. Forward check (payable to Psi Chi) to Psi Chi, 317 Life Sciences, Belknap Campus. Include “GRE Workshop,” your name and email address, along with your sandwich selection of ham, turkey, roast beef or veggie. Additional details will be emailed to you.

2.) Applications being accepted for Community Engagement grants
The Office of Community Engagement Faculty Grants program fosters UofL faculty and staff projects within the west Louisville community and Jefferson County. The program focuses on infrastructure development, research and non-research projects that hold a community participatory action perspective. A total of $20,000 is available for funding beginning July 2014. Application deadline is Monday, March 3.
3.) Cardinal Athletic Career Center hosts “Third Thursdays” Lunch Series

Free to students and staff
Topics include part-time job or internship opportunities and dressing for an interview. A panel of career specialists will address student questions regarding part-time employment and internships on and off campus and dressing appropriately for an interview. 4.) Infant scientists wanted for face perception studies
9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Friday (Saturday appointments available upon request), Room 314, Davidson Hall

The UofL Infant Cognition Lab (Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences) will conduct several studies on infant face perception. Infants who are between 3 and 7 months old with normal vision and hearing are invited to participate. Participation involves one brief visit to campus. 5.) Neuroscience Seminar series

The Neuroscience Seminar series is pleased to host Katerina Akasoglou, PhD, University of California, San Francisco. The title of her lecture is “Neurovascular interactions in inflammation: Mechanisms, imaging, and therapeutic potential.” Light refreshments will be available. 6.) ObGyn and Women’s Health seminar

Ali Azadi, MD, MSc, assistant professor, division of female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery, Department of ObGyn and Women’s Health, UofL, presents “Neuromodulation for Treatment of Bladder and Bowel Symptoms.” He will discuss how to evaluate and treat irritative voiding symptoms and urge urinary incontinence, identify the mechanism of action of neurostimulation, and establish the role of neurostimulation for treatment of fecal incontinence and constipation.

“Quality Improvement” presented by Orthopedic Residents, Ron Auer, MD; Drew Harston, MD; Zach Yenna, MD; and Brandi Hartley, MD. The residents will discuss failed or less than optimal orthopedic surgery cases identifying medical ethics issues, medical knowledge gaps, system-based issues, communications issues, professionalism issues and practice-based system issues.

Kara Schmidt, MD, assistant professor of pediatrics, Pediatric Rheumatology, UofL, presents “Pediatric Rheumatology: Red Flags in Primary Care.” She will present an update on systemic lupus, juvenile dermatomyositis and juvenile arthritis and address concerns of primary care physicians regarding diagnosis and treatment of rheumatologic disease in children and teens. CME category 1 is available for both AAFP and ACCME accreditation, and a continental breakfast will be provided.
