10.) Summer Research Opportunity Program (SROP)
March 1
The SROP provides UofL undergraduate students who would like to know more about graduate-level education at the university with a 10-week (May 31-August 5) research-intensive experience in a department that offers graduate degrees. Mentors will provide students with individualized research projects. All UofL departments with graduate programs will be supported. Students should be, preferably, in their sophomore or junior year of study. The deadline is March 1.
11.) McConnell Center kicks off 25th anniversary with series on key citizens, statesmen tonight
Jan. 19, 6 p.m., Ekstrom Library, Chao Auditorium
The McConnell Center kicks off its 25th anniversary with an engaging public lecture series entitled “Citizens and Statesmen” tonight at 6 p.m. at the Ekstrom Library’s Chao Auditorium on UofL’s Belknap campus. The year’s first event, “The Wisdom of Statesmen,” will be presented by William B. Allen, former chair of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights and former dean of Michigan State University’s James Madison College. All events in the lecture series are free and open to the public.
12.) Brandeis’ Connection to Louisville and UofL

On January 28, 1916, Louis D. Brandeis was nominated to serve as a Justice on the United States Supreme Court. To mark the anniversary, Professor Laura Rothstein will give her annual presentation on Brandeis’ connection to Louisville and the University of Louisville.

13.) Children ages 3-12 needed for thinking and learning studies
The UofL KID lab is investigating how children of different ages think about information, people and objects. Participation involves a visit of 30 minutes or less to the lab on the Belknap Campus. Children receive t-shirts and other prizes for participating. IRB 14.0053.

14.) Participants needed for blood draw study- IRB # 15.0856
UL’s School of Medicine and the American Heart Association Tobacco Research and Addiction Center (ATRAC) are conducting a study that will use blood to study the effects of flavoring added to both tobacco products and e-cigarettes. We will do a one-time blood draw of less than 2 tablespoons. The study is recruiting healthy unmedicated young adults (21-45 years of age) who have never used tobacco. The study will be one visit that will last approximately 30 minutes. Participant compensation will be $30 as a Swift pre-paid card.

15.) Childhood Obesity in Children 10 to less than 14 year olds

The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a research study to evaluate the effect of an investigational product on childhood obesity. White and African American male and female subjects 10 to less than 14 years old who are overweight, obese or normal weight may be eligible. If a child qualifies to participate, he or she will receive the product or placebo and study related care at no cost. Compensation will be provided for time/travel.

16.) Pediatric constipation study

The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit is conducting a clinical research study to assess the efficacy and safety of an investigational drug used to treat constipation. Children 6-17 years of age who have been diagnosed with functional constipation and are able to swallow capsules may be eligible to participate. Patients may be compensated for time/travel associated with their participation in the study.

17.) Autism study for children 4 to 10 years old

The UofL Kosair Charities Pediatric Clinical Research Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital is conducting a clinical research study to evaluate how a medication treats abnormal EEG’s without seizures, as well as behavioral and neurological symptoms, in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). If a child qualifies to take part in this research study, he/she will receive the study medication or placebo and study-related care at no cost. Parents will be offered compensation for time/travel.
