    On July 6, 1970, two women known as Marjorie Jones and Tracy Knight helped to launch the modern gay liberation movement when they entered the Jefferson County clerk’s office and requested a license to wed. UofL professor Cate Fosl recently reflected on their bravery, motivation and results in The Courier-Journal.

    1.) Tonight! Cards Under the Stars: ‘Big Hero 6’

    July 10, 6:30 p.m., on the lawn between the Natural Sciences Building and Grawemeyer Hall, movie begins at dusk

    Free admission

    Grab a blanket, lawn chairs and a cooler and bring the family for a screening of the film “Big Hero 6.” Let the kids enjoy our inflatable park and games, “Big Hero 6” photo area and other activities. Bring a picnic or purchase concessions from Mangia and POLLO food trucks.  And don’t forget, Cards Under the Stars returns July 24 with the 2015 live-action film “Cinderella.”

    3.) Tegrity to move to cloud-based service

    Tegrity, the university’s lecture-capture system, is moving to a cloud-based service. Tegrity videos with a creation date of January 2013 or later will be copied to the new hosting service. If you would like to copy recordings created prior to January 2013, please download the PDF instructions below. The final move will occur during Tegrity’s regular maintenance window this month.

    4.) Registration now open for Project Management Certificate program

    Earn your project management certificate from UofL Professional Development. This two-seminar program is based on the processes and knowledge areas in the Project Management Institute’s A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge. A limited number of spaces in the first seminar are available at a 25% discount for UofL employees. Classes begin August 13.

    5.) University of Louisville Wind Ensemble giving send-off concert

    July 12, 7 p.m., Youth Performing Arts School, Main Stage

    This is a preview of a performance to be given at the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles Conference in San Jose, California, during the following week. Ensembles were selected by audition from around the world. Along with top ensembles from the U.S., bands from Germany, Israel, Japan and other countries will perform at WASBE. Frederick Speck, director of bands, and Amy Acklin, associate director of bands, will conduct, and Adam McCord, professor of saxophone, will be soloist.

    6.) Planetarium Skies Over Louisville is tonight

    July 10, 8 p.m., Gheens Science Hall & Rauch Planetarium

    Join us for our monthly Skies Over Louisville live star and constellation presentation. Telescopes on the terrace with LAS follow, weather permitting.     7.) Infant Scientists Wanted

    The UofL Infant Cognition Lab (Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences) is conducting several studies on infant face perception. Infants who are between 3 and 8 months old with normal vision and hearing are invited to participate. Participation involves one brief visit to campus. Infants will receive a UofL t-shirt or bib for participating.

    This Friday, please join us for the 5th Annual Dr. Bernard Weisskopf Memorial Lectureship featuring John Bates, PhD. Bates is a professor in the department of psychological and brain sciences at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. He will be presenting “Temperament, Sleep, and Parenting in Development of Child Adjustment.”
