DID YOU KNOW?
The UofL Cardinal Bird, Louie, made 14 new friends this week when the other ACC school mascots came for a visit. Did you know our bird’s first costume was simply a cloth head worn by a UofL cheerleader in 1953? These days, Louie’s full-body costume weighs about 50 lbs., and the always-in-demand bird does everything from sky dive to keep up his own Twitter account, @LouietheCard.

2.) Internet access unavailable July 4 during preventative maintenance
Friday, July 4, beginning at 10 p.m.
IT will upgrade software on the Internet router. The upgrade will cause intermittent outages to the Internet and Internet2 on and off campus. The outage should not last more than one hour. The delivery of email may be delayed, but not lost, during this upgrade.

3.) Enroll in the Microsoft Campus agreement by July 14
Enroll now through July 14 in the Microsoft Campus Agreement (MCA) to ensure departmental software and computers are licensed for 12 months through June 30, 2015. MCA provides access to Microsoft Windows, Office, free online Microsoft training and discounted work at home versions of Microsoft Windows and Office. The rate for fiscal year 2014-15 is $79 per full-time employee. Visual Studios is not included in this year’s agreement.

4.) Call for Proposals: 2014 Kentucky Engagement Conference
Proposals are being accepted for the Kentucky Engagement Conference hosted by Morehead State University, November 19. Conference theme is “Productive Partnerships through Stewardship and Engagement.” The VP Office for Community Engagement will cover registration cost for those attending the conference. 5.) Filson topic is Kentucky’s forgotten soldiers of fortune
July 11, noon to 1 p.m., Filson Historical Society, 1310 S. 3rd St.
Free for Filson members, $10 for non-members
James Pritchard will discuss Kentuckians who fought and died in attempts to colonize lands they regarded as their right to rule in the name of Manifest Destiny. Between 1849 and 1860 these Kentuckians risked their lives in private military expeditions to acquire territory in Mexico, Cuba, and Central America. The Filson Historical Society is a member of the Center for Arts and Culture Partnerships.

The Missing Ingredient in Curriculum, Methods, and Assessment will be presented by Dr. Richard Gunderman. He is a chancellor’s professor of radiology, pediatrics, medical education, philosophy, liberal arts and philanthropy at Indiana University. He is a nine-time recipient of the Indiana University Trustees Teaching Award. In 2012, he received the Alpha Omega Alpha Robert J. Glaser Award for Teaching Excellence, the top teaching award from the Association of American Medical Colleges.
