    July 26, 2 to 3 p.m., Frazier History Museum, 829 W. Main St.

“Mr. Jefferson and the Giant Moose: Natural History Early in America,” revolves around 3 fascinating individuals: Thomas Jefferson; the French Count and naturalist, George-Louis Leclerc Buffon; and a very large, dead moose. Jefferson obsessed over this moose he believed could help quash early French arrogance that claimed that all life in America was degenerate, weak and feeble. Jefferson demonstrated that the fledgling America republic was equal of a well-established Europe. Natural history took on political overtones.
