UofL junior Kyle Funkhouser has become the highest draft pick in the baseball program’s history. The Los Angeles Dodgers selected the right-handed pitcher with the 35th choice in the 2015 Major League Baseball draft on Monday. Closer Nick Burdi, who joined the Minnesota Twins organization last summer, held the previous high-pick record as the 46th choice. Read more here.

2.) Belknap Campus Ice Cream Social is Thursday
June 11, 2 to 4 p.m., outside Grawemeyer Hall
Temperatures in the 90s are forecast for Thursday, making it perfect weather for the annual Belknap Campus Ice Cream Social featuring Comfy Cow ice cream. The Health Sciences Center Ice Cream Social will be scheduled at a later date. Sponsored by the President’s Office, the Provost’s Office and Fifth Third Bank.
3.) ‘Beer With a Scientist’ topic is ADD

Why are the rates of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder skyrocketing, and why does Kentucky have one of the highest rates nationally? Psychologist Paul Rosen will explain in the June 10 “Beer with a Scientist” discussion of ADHD.

On June 15, 1215, King John and his barons met in a field near Runnymede to sign the Magna Carta, a charter often viewed as the foundation of our modern notions of law and liberty. On June 15, 2015, please join us to celebrate the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta. The event will feature a presentation by Professor Andrew Rabin, department of English. Learn the dramatic true story of the document that shaped modern democracy!

8.) Free workshop on Office of Vocational Rehabilitation
June 10, 4 to 6 p.m., UofL Autism Center, 1405 E Burnett Ave.
This workshop will discuss the services and supports available through the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation. The Kentucky Office of Vocational Rehabilitation assists Kentuckians with disabilities to achieve suitable employment and independence. Anyone who has a disability and/or has a child with a disability is encouraged to attend to learn about this fabulous resource. OVR can be a key partner in an individual’s success after high school.

Medicine Grand Rounds features Adam A. Rojan, MD, assistant professor of medicine at the James Graham Brown Cancer Center and UofL. Dr. Rojan will present Cancer-Associated Thrombosis: Mechanisms and Therapies, focusing on discussing mechanisms of hypercoagulability in cancer and reviewing risk assessment in cancer-associated venous thromboembolism (VTE) and VTE prophylaxis and treatment in cancer patients.
