2.) Learn the Basics About Learner-Centered Syllabi Design

March 30, noon to 1 p.m., (note: lunch will be available at 11:30 a.m.), Delphi Center, Ekstrom Library #244

Do students use your syllabus as a learning tool? Course syllabi often serve a contractual and record-keeping function, communicating what is taught and when. However, when syllabi are learner-centered and focus more on how and why students will learn, students have more positive perceptions of the syllabus, the course, and the instructor. Join us for this syllabus tune-up that will give you a head start on your fall course planning.

    3.) Research funding opportunity available

    March 11

Pilot project grants are available for seeding of novel research to facilitate additional funding, foster new collaborative partnerships and/or support junior faculty for future extramural grant funding. We anticipate funding three pilot projects per year. Faculty leadership will review for consistency with the mission of the Helmsley Restorative Medicine Center and advisory board will review proposals for innovation and scientific merit.

    Additional Information: Application instructions online

4.) Session set on alternative methods of assessing teaching effectiveness

March 22, noon to 1 p.m. (note: lunch will be available at 11:30 a.m. and the presenter will be available until 1:30 p.m. for Q&A), Delphi Center, Ekstrom Library #244

It is well known that end-of-semester evaluations measure student satisfaction and not necessarily learning or teaching effectiveness. How might we counterbalance current evaluations with other indicators to better assess teaching effectiveness? Join us for this structured conversation and resource sharing session.
