1.) Free flu shots for students, faculty and staff today on the Belknap campus
Oct. 15
Students, faculty, and staff can get free flu shots through Campus Health Services ($5 for retirees) today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Speed School, Duthie Commons. A full schedule and a consent form are at http://louisville.edu/campushealth. Download, print and complete the consent form for fastest service. You must have your UofL ID with you to get a free flu shot.

3.) Trivia Night Wednesday to benefit Camp Quality

Students $5; Non-students $10
Come out and help us raise money for Camp Quality, an organization dedicated to letting kids with cancer be kids again. Each thousand dollars we raise will send a kid to summer camp. Assemble a team of six people or less, create a funny team name and use teamwork to find the right answers. Questions could cover pop culture, literature, music, history—anything. The winning teams will receive gift cards to local businesses.

4.) Call for presenters at 2nd annual Research Meets Activism Breakfast
Event: Nov. 11, 9 to 11 a.m., The Yearlings Club, 4309 W. Broadway
Free and open to the public
The Research Meets Activism Breakfast provides a venue for community activists and scholars to discuss their respective work and how it connects. This year we want scholars whose work deals with how stereotypes and unconscious bias show up in the brain, media, law, housing, education or everyday interactions, and how we combat these images despite their abundance. Up to two scholars and two activists will give 10-min presentations. Q&A with audience, closing remarks by john a. powell, JD, follow.

6.) Argentine writer Ana María Shua to give talk, answer questions

Rhonda Buchanan is the author of the critical study “El río de los sueños: Aproximaciones críticas a la obra de Ana María Shua,” and will engage author Ana María Shua in a discussion about her works and invite the audience to ask questions. The author and her translator will read from the bilingual anthology, “Quick Fix: Sudden Fiction by Ana María Shua,” which Buchanan published in 2008. The author will be available to sign books afterward. Tea and light refreshments will be served.

7.) Medicine Grand Rounds: Dr. Sathya S. Krishnasamy

UofL Medicine Grand Rounds features Sathya S. Krishnasamy, MD, UofL associate professor of medicine in the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes. Dr. Krishnasamy will present The Year in Diabetes: Bugs, Bionics, Beasts and Broken Hearts, focusing on understanding current ADA/EASD practice guidelines, novel therapeutics/technology for diabetics, new programs at UofL and recognizing ethnic and racial differences in T2DM and metabolic syndrome.
