On Tuesday, Oct. 20, students, alumni, faculty, staff and fans will come together for #UofLDayofGiving. This is a 24-hour social media campaign the week of Homecoming to gain 1,798 donors to help fund student scholarships and other University of Louisville areas of interest. 2.) Huntington’s Disease Education Day
Oct. 3, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Jewish Hospital Rudd Heart and Lung Center
Free
University of Louisville Physicians will be hosting a Huntington’s Disease Education Day on Saturday, Oct. 3. The event, co-sponsored by the Huntington’s Disease Society of America, is for patients, family and caregivers. It will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the conference center in the Jewish Hospital Rudd Heart and Lung Center, 201 Abraham Flexner Way. Registration and a breakfast starts at 9 a.m., and the program will start at 9:30 a.m. Research and clinical trials will be discussed, as well as other topics including memory issues, genetics and exercise and meditation for Huntington’s disease. The University of Louisville’s Cressman Center for the Arts is pleased to present an exhibition of work by the speakers at this year’s Midwest Regional Society for Photographic Education conference. “Throwing Light / Catching Shadows” explores the correspondences between various historic and contemporary photographic practices, from salt prints to high definition video.

The UofL Women’s Center Student Parent Association (S.P.A.)/Moms Support Group is sponsoring its annual Clothing Exchange Project for Children. New or gently used infant and children’s clothing, shoes, toys, new bags of disposable diapers/toddler pull-ups and toiletries for student-parents are being accepted in the Women’s Center through Oct. 16. 9.) Anne Braden Institute for Social Justice Research – Research Meets Activism Breakfast Call for Proposals
We invite scholars to submit proposals for a presentation of your research on November 5 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Yearlings Club. The topic of this year’s breakfast will be The Limits of a Civil Rights Framework in Today’s Movements for Racial and Social Justice. We seek scholars and graduate students who can present on this topic as related to health, police violence or housing. Proposals should be less than 300 words. Please submit by Oct. 12.

11.) Correction: Louisville’s Lifesaving Station #10, 1880-1915

The nation’s only federal lifesaving station on inland waterways was called upon to perform dangerous rescues at the Falls of the Ohio. Historian Chuck Parrish will discuss the station’s colorful history. Riverside, the Farnsley-Moremen Landing is a member of A&S’s Center for Arts and Culture Partnerships.
