Looking for some Sunday afternoon fun for your active 4 to 6-year-old? This exciting, hands-on workshop is just the answer. Kids get to taste astronaut food, launch rockets and do other engaging, fun activities that spark a lifelong love of learning.

Ghoulishly good fun is in store at the planetarium’s annual Fright Light Halloween party. Kids will play pumpkin bowling and other fun Halloween-themed games, get treats and the whole family gets to see our ever-popular Laser Fright Light music show. No tricks or scares at this frighteningly fun family event.

4.) Clothing Exchange Project gets underway today
Sept. 29, 8 a.m.
The Student-Parent Association/Mom’s Support Group of the Women’s Center gets underway today at various Belknap and Health Sciences campus locations. New or gently used infant and children’s clothing, shoes, toys, new bags of disposable diapers/toddler pull-ups are being accepted through Oct. 17. For a list of drop-off locations, call the Women’s Center, 852-8976, or email Phyllis M. Webb.

6.) Bone marrow drive to be held for Owen McMasters
Sept. 27, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and Sept. 29, 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Louisville Athletic Club (LAC), 9451 Westport Rd.
Owen is the son of Dr. Kelly McMasters, chair of the Department of Surgery. Owen has yet to find a match in the national bank. We need a donor in under two weeks. Please help!

7.) Meet the Professor: Math as art and art as math

The College of Arts and Sciences presents the monthly lunch and lecture series Meet the Professor. This month, Jake Wildstrom, professor of mathematics, will explore the connection between art and math. Mathematics has served as a tool for representational art and as a subject of art, featured by visionaries from M.C. Escher to Jorge Luis Borges. Art can also inform the way we view mathematics, with aesthetic considerations or visualizations of mathematical phenomena.

8.) PLAN hosts workshop for grad students on how to manage their mentors

Your relationship with your mentor is one of the most important of those you will have during graduate school. However, many (if not most) graduate students rarely consider how to best “manage their mentor. This workshop includes what mentors have to say about how to best “manage” them, from communication suggestions to practical advice for making progress. 9.) PLAN hosts workshop on CVs and resumes for graduate students
Oct. 1, 2 to 3 p.m., Houchens Building, Room 105
Building a resume or CV that highlights your experience and skills as a unique candidate for a position is vital in the job search process. But when do you use a resume and when do you use a CV.? Grad students need to know how to create both a resume and a CV, and know the differences between them. This workshop introduces key elements and questions to consider in using one or the other. Graduate students interested in attending can register and find more information on the PLAN website.

10.) Graduate Student Council invites proposals for research symposium
Abstracts due Oct. 15
The Graduate Student Council and the School of Interdisciplinary and Graduate Studies invite graduate students to submit abstracts for presentations at the 6th Semi-Annual Graduate Research Symposium on November 14. Abstracts for posters or 10 to12 minute paper presentations on any stage of research will be considered and are due on October 15. Graduate students interested in applying can find the submission form and more information on the GSC website.
