DID YOU KNOW?
A team of UofL students is competing for the inaugural ACC InVenture Prize this week at Georgia Tech. The UofL team, made up of students from both the College of Business and the Speed School of Engineering, came up with an electric bike with a solar charging station they call the E-bike. The 15 teams – one from each ACC school – will pitch their inventions to a panel of expert judges “Shark Tank” style, and the top team will receive $15,000.

Pilot project grants from Helmsley Restorative Medicine Center are available for seeding of novel research to facilitate additional funding, foster new collaborative partnerships and/or support junior faculty for future extramural grant funding. We anticipate funding three pilot projects. In 2005, James Salomon founded Salomon Contemporary Warehouse, a light industrial unit nestled in the woods of East Hampton. The seasonal exhibition space showed the likes of Alice Aycock, Lawrence Weiner, Donald Sultan, Billy Sullivan, and others. After five successful years in Long Island’s East End, Salomon Contemporary expanded and opened its Chelsea location at 526 West 26th Street in January 2010.

It’s spring cleaning time. Got junk? Don’t trash it. Use UofL’s recycling and reuse options. We recycle all kinds of plastic, paper, cardboard, metal and glass in our single-stream bins, and have collections for recycling batteries, e-waste, lighting, printer cartridges and chemicals. Departmental furniture, equipment & electronics should go to UofL Surplus. Donate personal clothing, office and household supplies, electronics, etc. to the UofL Free Store in Unitas on Wednesdays & Thursdays 12-2 p.m.

Join us in UofL’s organic Garden Commons to finish preparing beds and start planting for the growing season. Our Addiction Psychiatry fellow, John McCurdy, MD, PGY-6, will present, “Curing a Spiritual Affliction – The Application of LSD in the Treatment of Alcoholism.” Participants will review the history and pharmacology of LSD, learn the neurophysiology and process of a psychedelic experience, cover the evolution of psychedelic treatment for alcohol use disorders in the 1950’s and 1960’s, and consider the utility of psychedelics in the treatment of addiction today.
