    UofL’s Annual Crawfish Boil, which is from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Red Barn, is in its 31st year and is one of the longest-running campus traditions. Proceeds from the event go to Red Barn scholarships and programs through the RBAA. Read more.

Enjoy 45 minutes of quality, functional movements that will nourish your spine, revitalize your postural muscles, and strengthen your core with every movement—the perfect start to your Saturday. Exercises are shown at different skill levels so each person can work to their own individual competency.

    3.) Special Event: University community invited to new faculty showcase

    April 20, 10:30 a.m. to noon (reception 12-1), Chao Auditorium (Ekstrom Library)

    The Office of the Provost and Delphi Center for Teaching and Learning invite you to the inaugural Seminar on Teaching for New Faculty Showcase and Reception. This special event will celebrate and recognize the outstanding work of faculty who have completed the yearlong seminar. Each of the 11 faculty participants will present an engaging 5-minute lightning talk on a topic related to their teaching. This is a valuable opportunity for new faculty, department chairs, and faculty mentors to learn more about the seminar and ways to support faculty success.

    4.) Surplus Warehouse hosting public auction

    April 30, doors open at 8 a.m., sale starts at 9:30 a.m.

    The Surplus Warehouse, located at 1901 S. Floyd St. on Belknap Campus, will hold a public auction on April 30. The warehouse will be open for preview on April 29, 8 a.m.- 4 p.m. The list of auction items is available on the Surplus website under “Auction List.”

    8.) Presentation: Become conversationally fluent in a foreign language without leaving

    Dr. Paul Klein from the University of Louisville School of Medicine will give a brief presentation on how to become conversationally fluent in a foreign language without moving to a foreign country. The talk will include effective methods, motivation, and local resources for learning languages.

    9.) Visiting Artist Lecture by Kensuke Yamada

    April 16, 3-4 p.m., HPES Building, Ceramics Studio

    Free and open to the public

    Yamada moved to the U.S. from Japan 10 years ago as a foreign exchange student. In Yamada’s struggle to learn the language, the artist gained a strong empathy for the universal experiences that seem to provide the undercurrent to language. Figurative extensions of these shared experiences are expressed in Yamada’s sculptures.

    11.) Workshop: Get Back To The Land with Sustainable Gardening

    April 20, 2-3 p.m., Garden Commons at the Cultural Center

    UofL’s Sustainability Coordinator, Dr. Justin Mog, will share tips for starting and maintaining a sustainable garden to grow your own organic food – whether in pots on your porch, in your backyard, or in a community garden. Also joining us will be The Food Literacy Project, displaying their Truck Farm, a mobile demonstration garden with veggies planted in the pickup bed.
