    Did You Know?

    The Crawford Gymnasium opened on UofL’s Belknap campus in 1964 and, according to a 1963 article in the Courier-Journal, featured an unusual roof, or the “first elliptical paraboloid in this part of the United States.” Local blog Broken Sidewalk covers more details about the Crawford Gym’s architecture.

    1.) Business Operations launches Onboarding; info sessions available

    Business Operations proudly announces the launch of Onboarding process for the hiring of student assistants, graduate assistants and temporaries. The new online workflow-driven process eliminates the need for the previous paper manual process. Information sessions, including a demo and an opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback, will be conducted on these dates:

    Aug. 16: 9-10:30 a.m., SAC Floyd Theater, Belknap

    Aug. 18: 8:30-10 a.m., CTR Building 101/102, HSC

    Aug. 18: 10:30 a.m.- 12 p.m., MITC Bigelow Hall, Belknap

    2.) Open house scheduled to bid farewell to Crawford Gym

    Aug. 4, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Crawford Gym, Belknap Campus; Free, open to the public

    An open house will be held Thursday at Crawford Gym for former players and fans. Activities will include an 11 a.m. event in which Hall of Fame Coach Denny Crum and several former players will share memories. The university is also selling a limited number of 8-by-10-inch pieces of the Crawford Gym floor for $50 apiece. Scoreboards, bleachers and other items will also be part of an online auction through Aug. 5.

    3.) Register for the Family & Friends Campus Visit

    September 12, 10:15 a.m.-12:45 p.m., Room 310B, Student Activities Center, Belknap Campus; Free

    Do you have a son or daughter who is a high school student? Then the Office of Undergraduate Admissions has the ideal Campus Visit Program for you both. Jenny Sawyer, Executive Director of Admissions, will lead an information session about the application and enrollment process. This will be followed by a 90-minute walking tour by one of our current student ambassadors. Parking is available on Belknap campus. Space is limited and registration is required.

    4.) Poster session of summer undergraduate research today

    Aug. 3, noon to 3 p.m., Kosair Charities, CTRB Lobby, HSC

    Undergraduate students will present the results from their 10-week summer research experience. Participants in the Cancer Education R25, IMPACT REU, KBRIN, Physiology Cardiovascular, SROP, Cancer Center High School students, and students supported by External Fellowship, will present.

    7.) Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Science Grand Rounds

    August 4, 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m.; ACB Auditorium, Free

    Douglas Turkington, MD, Professor of Psychosocial Psychiatry and Consultant Psychiatrist, Institute of Neuroscience, Newcastle University, United Kingdom, will be presenting “Cognitive-Behavior Therapy for Psychosis.” Dr. Turkington is a major research figure within the history of the development of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for schizophrenia. He has written more than one hundred articles and more than half a dozen books on the subject of CBT for psychosis.
