LOUISVILLE, Ky. – As part of its commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the University of Louisville invites the public to find rides to share citywide with its new carpool-matching service. The service can be used by anyone.
The service can be found on the new, free “Cardinal Directions” trip-finding platform, which shows all transportation options on one map. The carpool option will help match riders going to the same destination.
The new platform launched this summer as a one-stop-shop for UofL staff, faculty and students who want to find ways to reduce pollution and save money, time and hassle by cutting back on driving to campus.
“Anyone can register and use ‘Cardinal Directions’ to find transportation options in the Louisville area that work for them, whether it is carpooling, biking, walking, driving or taking transit. The more people use the system, the more effective it will be at matching potential carpoolers,” said Justin Mog, assistant to the provost for sustainability initiatives.
“Cardinal Directions” is easy to use. Just visit directions.louisville.edu, and type in your starting point and destination. All options will be displayed and users can easily compare the relative travel time, mileage, carbon emissions and calories burned by each option. The map also shows locations of vehicles available to the public through the UofL CarShare Program and provides links for transportation options between cities, such as Amtrak or Megabus.
Users can join a network – UofL students, UofL employees or public users – that will enable them to search for rides just within their network and participate in future incentive programs such as vouchers to local bike shops.
“Cardinal Directions” replaces the Zimride platform UofL previously used for carpool-matching. For more information, contact Mog at justin.mog@louisville.edu or visit louisville.edu/sustainability.
