    The new Teaching Innovation Learning Lab (TILL), on the third floor of the Ekstrom Library, is a space for faculty-driven exploration and testing of innovation teaching methods and supports UofL’s 21st Century Initiative. The technology-rich active learning environment is designed to foster group collaboration, with moveable tables, node chairs and multiple monitors.

    UofL Today with Mark Hebert

    1.) WHAS-TV, Great Day Live

    Mondays at 9:30 a.m. UofL’s Mark Hebert has a story about UofL and talks with Rachel Platt and Terry Meiners about campus events.  Segments can be found on YouTube. WLKY-TV also runs the UofL stories on their Saturday morning newscasts.

    Airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 6 p.m. (except holidays like Labor Day) on 93.9 FM The Ville; replayed on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Hebert hosts two weekly 30-minute programs focusing on research, programs, successful students and insights from UofL’s faculty experts.

    4.) Information sessions on the FLSA changes and what UofL is doing to comply

    The Fair Labor Standards Act goes into effect on Dec. 1 and includes a new minimum salary threshold for employees who will be exempt from overtime pay eligibility. The new minimum salary threshold for exempt positions has increased to $47,476.  Many positions at UofL will become eligible for overtime. Information sessions to discuss these FLSA changes and what the university is doing to comply will be held this week on both the Belknap and HSC campuses.

    5.) Save the date: Online benefits Open Enrollment begins Oct. 17

    The annual online benefits Open Enrollment begins Monday October 17 at 8 a.m., and closes Friday, October 28 at 5 p.m. This is your once-a-year opportunity to make changes to your current benefits. More details will be released soon via UofL Today and a postcard sent to your home.

    6.) Teaching Innovation Learning Lab Grand Opening Today

    September 26, 3-5 p.m., Teaching Innovation Learning Lab, 3rd Floor, Ekstrom Library

    You’re invited to experience the Teaching Innovation Learning Lab (TILL) in person during the Grand Opening Celebration. Formal remarks from Acting President Pinto and Acting Provost Billingsley begin at 3:30 p.m. Attendees will be able to tour the new facility, participate in active learning classroom demonstrations, and will have the chance to win door prizes. Light refreshments will be served.

    7.) Book-in-Common author visits UofL

    September 27

    “Hidden America” author Jeanne Marie Laskas will visit UofL on Tuesday. Included are a free writing workshop (4-5:15 p.m., Floyd Theater) and keynote lecture with book signing (7 p.m., SAC Multi-purpose Room). The writing workshop will help students get started on the Composition Contest, which awards prizes for first year and upperclass student winners in written and digital categories.

    8.) Event to advance women and girls in STEM careers

    Million Women Mentors (MWM) seeks the engagement of one million Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) mentors (male and female) women and girls in these fields. Join us for a kick-off event with comments from Lt. Governor Jenean Hampton.

    9.) Thank a Donor Day celebrated this week

    UofL’s annual Thank a Donor Day will be held this week on both the Belknap and HSC campuses. The event is hosted by the Office of Donor Relations to show gratitude to the university’s donors. Messages of thanks can also be shared socially with #UofLthanks.

    10.) UofL Libraries celebrates Banned Books Week with read aloud

    September 27-29, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Ekstrom Library East wing, Belknap Campus

    Join the university community as faculty, students, and staff read aloud from a favorite banned or challenged book on the east side of Ekstrom Library. You’ll also be able to create a book cover in the Writing Center and reflect on why a banned book has been meaningful to you.
