LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Celestial salmon, Earthling green salad and ring of Saturn doughnuts are just a few of the items on the menu Nov. 16 as part of a University of Louisville Gheens Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium fundraiser.
“Mouth-Watering Tidbits” is an event that raises money to send the Owsley Brown II Portable Planetarium to Bloom Elementary School. A percent of all sales from Lilly’s and affiliated eatery La Peche Gourmet-to-Go will go toward the cause.
“This is such a fun event, it brings people together with great food and live music to help enrich the Bloom Elementary students’ education,” said Lilly’s owner and chef Kathy Cary. “Plus it’s great as a chef to make all this intergalactic food!”
“This is an exciting opportunity to spread understanding of the wonders of the cosmos to all members of the community, including parents and students,” said Thomas Tretter, who directs the university’s planetarium.
In addition to the themed meals, there will be a small plates menu and specialty cocktails such as the Hubble Bubbler and Beam Me Up Scotty. Live jazz music performed by Carly Johnson will accompany the evening meal.
During dinner hours, bistro patrons can look through telescopes set up on the sidewalk outside of the restaurant, weather permitting. The telescopes are offered by members of the Louisville Astronomical Society, who will be on hand to give stargazing tips. The evening of amateur astronomy celebrates the legacy and 125th birthday of former Highlands resident Edwin Hubble, namesake of the orbital space telescope.
Lilly’s is at 1147 Bardstown Road and hours for the event are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for lunch and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. for dinner. The fixed price menu for lunch is $19 and $45 for dinner. Lunch items are Earthling green salad, celestial salmon, and ring of Saturn doughnuts. Dinner will be crustacean invasion lobster bisque, Europa moonfish and spaced out fruit crater.
