DID YOU KNOW

“Play,” a 47-minute orchestral work by American composer Andrew Norman, is the winner of the 2017 University of Louisville Grawemeyer Award for Music Composition. In three movements, “Play” explores the relationship of choice and chance, freewill and control. It was commissioned by the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, with funding from Music Alive. Norman is a Los Angeles-based composer of orchestral, chamber and vocal music.

Louisville Science Pathways (LSP) High School Internship Program

December 3, 8 a.m., Belknap and Health Sciences Campuses
The Student Policy and Outreach Group (SPOG) is starting a summer research program for high school students, and is looking for available faculty willing to take a student. The program, Louisville Science Pathways (LSP), is unique from other existing programs in that its focus is simply to get students into a lab with hands-on experience for 20+ hours a week for 8 weeks; a structured research project/poster is not necessary.

UofL’s annual ceramics sale Dec. 2-3

Handcrafted ceramics by University of Louisville student and faculty artists will be available for purchase just in time for holiday shopping. The annual ceramics sale is 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Fri., Dec. 2 and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sat., Dec. 3 in the ceramics studio in the Studio Arts building, 2314 S. Floyd St. Proceeds from the sale benefit the UofL Hite Art Institute’s Ceramic Arts Organization and help fund free public workshops with visiting artists and student travel to art conferences. Check out some of the pieces online.

Infant scientists wanted

The UofL Infant Cognition Lab (Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences) is conducting several studies on infant face perception. Infants who are between 3 and 8 months old with normal vision and hearing are invited to participate. Participation involves one brief visit to campus. Infants will receive a UofL t-shirt or bib for participating.
