The University of Louisville School of Music’s Jazz Fest (originally Jazz Week) was founded in 1992 as a celebration of America’s indigenous music. The event celebrates its 25th anniversary this week with performances running through Feb. 25.

Cheryl Hart, sport and exercise psychology professor, and Paula Kommor, wellness specialist and interdisciplinary wellness coaching minor chair, will host the 2017 Second Wind Motivation Women’s Retreat on Lake Michigan July 13-16. Held at the South Haven Conference Center, participants are guided through writing prompts and other activities that encourage relaxation, introspection, mindfulness, goal-setting and new perspectives.

Andrew DeFilippis, MD, of Cardiovascular Medicine is conducting a research study to evaluate the effect of environmental exposures on cardiovascular disease risk. Participation requires two 60-minute visits to complete a questionnaire, EKG, and give blood and urine samples. Subjects receive a $50 gift card for each visit. To participate you must be over 18 years old, non-pregnant, and reside in or near Jefferson County. We currently need “healthy” smokers. UofL’s School of Medicine and the American Heart Association Tobacco Research and Addiction Center (A- TRAC) are conducting a study that will use blood to study the effects of flavoring added to both tobacco products and e-cigarettes. We will do a one-time blood draw of less than 2 tablespoons. The study is recruiting healthy unmedicated young adults (18-40 years of age) who have never used tobacco.
