DID YOU KNOW
For the past 10 years, UofL’s School of Music has collaborated with the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, Poland, in a series of educational exchanges that have enabled dozens of students and faculty to experience music study, teaching, and performance in a different culture. To date, these exchanges have included classical guitar, music therapy, music composition, orchestral studies, wind band performance, jazz studies, voice and pera.

Business First has named Suzanne Bergmeister, assistant director of the Forcht Center for Entrepreneurship and entrepreneur-in-residence in the University of Louisville’s College of Business, one of its Bizwomen Mentoring Monday mentors for 2017. The women will take part in the annual Bizwomen Mentoring Monday, a breakfast networking event that gives attendees a chance to get a speed mentoring session. Bergmeister, who teaches in the entrepreneurship MBA program, has been affiliated with the College of Business since 2003.

Open carry advocates to march around campus
Open carry advocates plan to march on the public sidewalks bordering Belknap Campus Friday, March 31, from about 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants may be carrying a variety of firearms, including long rifles, pistols and replicas of rifles. The route could include Third Street, Cardinal and University boulevards and Floyd and Brook streets. The Dean of Students Office, UofL Police and Louisville Metro Police are aware of the activities.
Dates set for annual Open Walls faculty/staff art exhibit
June 12-29, opening reception June 14, noon to 2 p.m.
The annual show for faculty and staff will run from June 12 through June 29 in the Photographic Archives gallery, part of Archives & Special Collections, in the Ekstrom Library. The exhibit is an opportunity for UofL employees who are not professional or exhibited artists to share their work. Employee visual artists who want to participate should submit the registration form via email by 5 p.m. June 2, 2017. Click here for the form. Past Open Walls participants are encouraged to exhibit; please enter artwork that is new to Open Walls.

Personal Hygiene Products Collection Drive

Celebrate student writing in Ekstrom Library
April 5, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Ekstrom Library East Lobby/Learning Commons, Free
Come celebrate the written word at the annual Celebration of Student Writing (CoSW), where students present their writing, both completed and in progress, in a variety of settings and formats. CoSW allows students to receive feedback from a public audience outside their writing classes. Last year’s event brought over 100 students to the library for readings, posters, and digital media presentations.

Dr. King’s “Beyond Vietnam” 50th Anniversary Read-In

On April 4, 1967, Dr. King delivered his most radical critique of racism, militarism, and materialism. On its 50th anniversary, UofL students and faculty will join others around the world to read aloud this historic speech and hold discussions of its powerful meanings for today.
