A week-long summer camp for kids with hearing loss is put on by University of Louisville audiology students each year.
“Our main goal is to get these kids together so they can spend time with each other other, with other people like them,” said Haiden Nunn, UofL audiology student.
This year’s theme was dinosaurs and Jurassic Park. UofL students called it “Hearassic Park.”
Fourteen hearing impaired kids participated, doing crafts, taking field trips and playing dinosaur-related games.
Family members are also invited to participate in the camp. Grady Ryan’s sister, Mabry, joined him at camp this year and said it was good for him because he didn’t have to worry about other kids bullying him.
“A lot of these kids have a stigma, unfortunately,” Nunn said. “When we get other people like them together, they see that they’re not alone.”
