DID YOU KNOW

This spring, University Libraries Rare Books received an impressive addition to the William Marshall Bullitt Collection of Rare Mathematics and Astronomy: a 1541 edition of Ptolemy’s “Almagest,” which includes two rare star maps. Rare Books also holds a 1548 Italian translation of Ptolemy’s “Geografia” with a number of ornate engraved maps. Both books are available in the research room, Ekstrom LL 17. Monday, June 5: What happens when you mix 3-year-olds with seniors who have memory issues and mix in a little music? That’s what a UofL music therapy research project is figuring out.

Open Walls opening reception

The 2017 Open Walls Faculty/Staff Art Exhibit runs from June 12-29, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. An opening reception will be held June 14 from noon to 2 p.m. outside of the gallery. All friends, family and coworkers are welcome to attend.

4th Annual Louisville Symposium on Heart Disease in Women: Essentials of Heart Healthy Living

Training for Panopto, UofL’s new lecture capture system

UofL has selected a new lecture capture partner to replace Tegrity. Panopto allows you to create, edit and import video or lecture capture for your course. You can also embed video in Blackboard, live stream or capture video with mobile devices. Panopto is currently available for all users with a Ulink account. Learn the ins and outs of Panopto during a virtual training session (offered using Blackboard Collaborate).

Lab Safety and Hazardous Waste training

June 8, 9 a.m. to noon, Room 2034, KWING/ School of Nursing, HSC Campus; Free 
Employees who work with chemicals should attend the Lab Safety/Hazardous Waste training. Recurrent training for employees is required every three years and may be completed in BioRAFT. Individuals who work with radioactive materials should attend the Radiation Safety Orientation session, which is from 11:15 a.m. to noon. Bring employee/student ID number to sign in. Attendees can pre-register online, however advanced registration is not required.

Gas lawn mowers pollute even more, so swap your mower and “Grow More, Mow Less.”
