DID YOU KNOW UofL biology professor emeritus Charles Covell and other butterfly specialists will lead the local count toward the annual national butterfly census on July 1. The count will take place in the fields and woods of UofL’s Horner Wildlife Sanctuary in Oldham County. Last year, 30 volunteers counted 965 from 39 species adding to the 39-year total of 70 species with more than 32,000 butterflies tabulated.
FACULTY AND STAFF NOTABLES Kimcherie Lloyd, professor of music, recently returned from Ecuador where she was an invited guest of the Orquestra Sinfonica Loja under the leadership of UofL School of Music alumna, Andrea Vela (BM ’97). Professor Lloyd conducted the Orquestra Sinfonica Loja and guest soloist, Cuban clarinetist Nestor Calvo Perez. Lloyd presented a masterclass in conducting at the High Conservatory of Loja, and in Quito, she presented a masterclass for the Orquestra Sinfonica Ecuador.

A cohort of 8-12 participants will meet six times during the academic year. Each session is 3 hours in length. Applications are due Friday, August 25.
