DID YOU KNOW In 2014, the Check-in-and-Connect Program was established. Diversity Fellows who are funded through the School of Interdisciplinary and Graduate Studies are required to attend professional development workshops that encourage a network of support systems, relationship building, and provides access to resources. The program is an effective retention tool to help maintain our underrepresented graduate students.
FACULTY AND STAFF NOTABLES Dr. Jonathan Kopechek, a junior faculty member of the Bioengineering department, was recently awarded the Scientist Development Grant from the American Heart Association. The grant offers research funding to help junior investigators establish independent research careers.

UofL Today with Mark Hebert Radio show rescheduled this weekBecause of the July 4 holiday, the July 3 and July 4 radio shows have been moved to July 5 and 6 on 93.9 FM TheVille, and will be replayed Saturday at 8 a.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m. This week’s schedule: Wednesday, July 5: Scientists, including UofL’s Michele Kosiewicz, are discovering microbiota and gut bacteria can help or hurt overall health. Kosiewicz is studying its impact on lupus. Lora Haynes talks about a resiliency project aimed at Louisville’s homeless and the residents of Flint, Michigan. Thursday, July 6: UofL employee Tyiana Thompson is crowned Mrs. Kentucky. She talks about her job and title. Gary Hoyle is doing research on lung irritants, specifically chlorine, and a possible way to cut the damage. Peter Zeihan spoke at UofL as part of the McConnell Center’s series on the presidency.
