LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Panelists will discuss documentaries about higher education and about the 2014 Ferguson police shooting that will be screened soon at the Speed Art Museum Cinema in events co-sponsored by University of Louisville groups.

–Aug. 24, “Starving the Beast,” a 95-minute Steve Mims documentary about reform efforts, power, market forces, societal roles and access at several public research universities, will be shown at 6 p.m. in a free, public screening; limited tickets are available by emailing tracy.heightchew@louisville.edu.
The talkback session afterward will include Kentucky Sen. Morgan McGarvey, D-Louisville; David Owen, philosophy department chair; Vishnu Tirumala, Student Government Association president; Enid Trucios-Haynes, law professor and Faculty Senate chair; and Emily Bingham, author and former UofL trustee.
The screening is presented by UofL’s Commonwealth Center for the Humanities and Society and philosophy department, the American Association of University Professors and Speed Cinema.
–Aug. 25-27, Sept. 1-3, “Whose Streets?” a 103-minute Sabaah Folayan-Damon Davis documentary told by activists and leaders about the aftermath of the fatal shooting of unarmed teenager Michael Brown by a police officer in Missouri. The film is screened in conjunction with the national Seventh Art Stand film initiative and offered by UofL’s Anne Braden Institute for Social Justice Research with Speed Cinema.
The screenings open Aug. 25 with a 7 p.m. introduction by Cherie Dawson-Edwards, criminal justice associate professor and Anne Braden Institute faculty research fellow, and a post-screening discussion by Trinidad Jackson. Other film times will be:
