LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Local eatery Lilly’s Bistro and La Peche Gourmet-to-Go will again raise money for the University of Louisville Gheens Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium to bring its popular portable planetarium to Bloom Elementary School.
The fundraiser, scheduled for Nov. 16, has raised about $7,500 since 2014 to pay for the Owsley Brown II Portable Planetarium to visit Bloom and hold sessions for all students.
“The students love the portable planetarium and they look forward to its arrival every year. For some, it is their first exposure to the planetarium experience,” said Jack Jacobs, principal of Bloom Elementary. “We are grateful to Lilly’s for this continued opportunity and for their dedication to local students, and also for the customers who come out for the event.”
The evening of amateur astronomy will celebrate the legacy and 128th birthday of former Highlands resident Edwin Hubble, namesake of the orbital space telescope. Attendees can look through telescopes set up on the sidewalk, weather permitting. Members of the Louisville Astronomical Society will be on hand to give stargazing tips.
In addition to the regular menu, there will be fixed menus at $19 for lunch and $50 for dinner. Specialty cocktails with names like the Tipsy Telescope and Beam Me Up, Toddy! are $12 apiece. A portion of all sales will go toward the cause.
A new specialty cocktail for the event to honor Hubble will be chosen Nov. 9 at a contest featuring mixologists from Lilly’s, Joy Luck, Fat Lamb and Seviche. The public is invited to stop by at Lilly’s for a bite to eat and join in the fun beginning at 5 p.m.
Lilly’s is at 1147 Bardstown Road and hours for the fundraiser are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for lunch and 5-10 p.m. for dinner.
