LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville Board of Trustees has tapped a local attorney specializing in contract law and compliance issues to serve as interim counsel.
Thomas Hoy, a partner in the Dinsmore & Shohl firm in Louisville, will begin as interim counsel May 25. He will fill the role currently held by Leslie Chambers Strohm, who has announced her retirement effective May 25.
“Tom Hoy is an outstanding attorney with deep experience in representing non-profit organizations,” Strohm said. “His law firm, Dinsmore & Shohl, has represented the university for many years and is familiar with the wide range of legal challenges the university confronts on a daily basis. He’ll be an excellent addition to the UofL team and a strong adviser to the university’s leadership.”
Hoy has practiced business and corporate law in Louisville since 1980. Working with both for-profit businesses and non-profit organizations, he has advised clients on contracts, compliance, transactions and governance issues. He began his career with Woodward, Hobson & Fulton, serving as that firm’s managing partner from 1993 to 2003. Woodward, Hobson & Fulton merged with Dinsmore & Shohl in 2009.
“I am honored to serve the University of Louisville in the role of university counsel,” Hoy said. “While I am happy in my current role, I simply could not pass up the opportunity to support the university, which plays such an important role in the lives of thousands of students and in the future of our community. I look forward to working with the administration and the Board of Trustees to move the university forward.”
