LOUISVILLE, Ky. — An Oct. 3 talk at the University of Louisville will focus on international migration and its political consequences for the United States and Latin America.
University of Kentucky political scientist Abby Cordova will give the free, public talk about “Crime, Violence and Migration: Consequences for Democracy in the Americas” at 4:30 p.m. in Chao Auditorium, Ekstrom Library. The event is the 17th annual Latin American and Latino Studies Heritage Lecture, offered by the Latin American and Latino studies program within the College of Arts and Sciences.
The speaker is an associate professor of political science at UK and was the 2016-17 Central American visiting scholar of Harvard University’s David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies. Cordova will discuss her research findings on migration’s causes and resulting political effects; her work focuses on the political impacts of inequality and marginalization.
Cordova also will speak to a Latin American studies class 9:30-10:45 a.m. Oct. 4 in Room 215, Bingham Humanities Building.
Co-sponsors are the Commission on Diversity and Racial Equality, Hispanic/Latino Faculty and Staff Association, Student Success Center and the College of Arts and Sciences’ international, diversity and engagement programs office and criminal justice and political science departments.
