    UofL alumna Amanda Briede will talk about her experiences at UofL, as a master’s student at Virginia Commonwealth University and her entry into the professional world. Briede graduated Summa cum Laude in 2009 with a BFA in glass and sculpture and forensic anthropology minor. Her MFA is in craft/ material studies. At UofL, she received the Allen R. Hite Scholarship and the Winthrop Allen Memorial Award from the Allen R. Hite Institute.

    3.) Blackboard courses from summer and fall 2011 to be archived and deleted

    Blackboard courses from summer and fall 2011 will be archived and then deleted after Oct. 26. This is a semi-annual process by the Delphi Center that frees up server space for new courses. If you need to keep a summer or fall 2011 course available beyond Oct. 26, please submit a request by that date.

    Coffee is essential to human life, but at OSU Astronomy Department, coffee is also an important contributor to science. Gerard Williger will discuss two new ideas he has worked on resulting from OSU’s astro-ph coffee discussions. “Protecting Life in the Milky Way: Metals Keep the GRBs Away” is about the heavy element limits for stars undergoing massive explosions. “A Survey About Nothing: Monitoring a Million Supergiants for Failed Supernovae” concerns supernova verification.
